Considering the tradition of storytelling as a mirror to culture, at times a
critique, Amanda Fauteux uses multiples, sewing, embroidery, animation,
drawing and books to become a kind of storyteller herself. Human or animal
imagery that rides the border between cute and fearsome and handwritten
text are tools to invite the viewer in, and disarm them. The intention is not to
attack but rather investigate, like a rat, the subtle shifts in our daily lives.
Fauteux hails originally from Northern Ontario, but has lived the last several years in Sackville, New Brunswick. She has had the opportunity to show her work in galleries, artist-run centres and festivals across the Maritimes and elsewhere in Canada, including the Dawson City International Short Film Festival in Dawson City, Yukon, and The Owens Art Gallery in Sackville, New Brunswick.
